Confucius was born in Lu, which had a Duke rather than an Emperor (the first Emperor was after Confucius was dead). He didn't have much influence there and didn't exert much in his travels, either. There's a difference between Confucianism and the recorded sayings of Confucius. He was mostly interested in preserving the ritual of the Zhou Dynasty as a way of keeping society in harmony, and he emphasized the responsibilities that rulers have to subjects.Confucius's actual teachings have been more or less out of date since Zhou ritual disappeared. His more general opinions have some merit, but they're still from another world. The development of Confucianism since his time is another story altogether.
Best of luck on the new gig, Mark. Digg's gonna miss you.

You are an angry individual. You should talk to someone..
Imagine this then: Download a few copies of the brains of the best scientists on planet Earth. Copy them into a vast network of over 10,000 CPU's (each one running a single copy of that brain). Imagine 10,000 simulations of the best minds on Earth, all networked together... running 24 hours per day, at hyper-human speeds, without physical limitations, and see what they come up with! Better yet: do the same with the brains of the best computer scientists and electronics-hardware engineers, and give them a single task: build a network/computer that is better than you. When that second generation is built, then give it the same task: build a network/computer that is better than yourself. And so on and so on... it's possible that at that point you would have a sudden spike towards infinitely powerful computing machines, capable of simulating an intelligence billions of times more powerful than the human brain. Whether or not it would be truely "alive" or have legal rights would become irrelevant in that moment. It would simulate a hyper-intelligence so perfectly, that our own intelligence would seem like "dogs" compared to it. We would be easily out0manipulated and outsmarted by it. (It could run perfect simulations of your loved ones and call you on the phone, or manipulate you into doing pretty much what it wanted.) That point in time, in which simulated computing intelligence spikes towards infinity is known as a "singularity". Dr. Ray Kurzweil, and Dr. Hans Moravec have been predicting this since the early to mid 1990's. (There stuff is amazing to read.) Also an incredible mind blowing read: Dr. Eric Drexler's predictions about Nanotechnology. (He too began predicting this stuff in the early 1990's).!

I appreciate that the Post inserted [legislation] in the quote about "people who oppose global warming".?
It's pretty sad that the they are not allowed for shelter at a church....I thought god was forgiven? |

Back in those days, homosexuality really didn't sink in as much as it has today. The fun times they had were really fun without all the sexuality. I mean, hell, when do you get the opportunity to get your head shaved by a blindfolded "Old China Hand"?The navy back then meant something, being on board the bantam frigates, the powerful destroyers, to the (semi-obsolete) lords of the seas, battleships! You had the right to sport that tattoo you got at Frisco, or Pearl, and you showed it proudly. You were in the middle of a bar brawl that started over some almond-eyed girl wearing a slinky number that some hairy-chested army type decided that he wanted a piece of her. He cut in while you were dancing with her. You put a bottle over his head, after pulling off his hat!You were either at sea or at your port that fateful Sunday, listening to the radio or on morning watch, trying to hear what Honolulu radio was broadcasting, until they broke in and announced The Attack. You recall the trauma you felt, then the deep resolve you were going to cram all of the ordinance your ship was carrying down Tojo's throat. And by God you did just that. The Rite of Passage, no matter how watered down it is, is the Right of every squid that crosses that latitude the first time, be either Naval aviator, sailor, or submariner.
