One of the notable things about the great depression was that the remainder of the wealthy society retreated into their most wealthy communities to ride it out. In that economy, a billionaire probably couldn't live next door to regular folk. The contrast would be too much for everyone. How could you hold a swank upper class dinner party, when people just outside your fence have no money for food or shelter and no jobs and no prospects? It's emotionally easier to be surrounded by millionaires, who don't cause you to feel crappy when you spend lavishly.
Which is a far more logical conclusion than what was previously thought.

For anyone that hasn't read the Surrogates graphic novel, do so. I thought the movie was great but enjoyed the book way better (as is usually the case). Still haven't had a chance to see balls though!

if those 2400 retirees bought those 172,800 cases of beer at the store for full price it would only cost 3 million. to think that it costs molson 1 million dollars at about 20 cents of cost per beer is stupid.
